Cultivating Every Aspect of Life
“Mental health is shaped by the wide-ranging characteristics (including inequalities) of the social, economic and physical environments in which people live. Higher rates of mental health problems are associated with poverty and socio-economic disadvantage.” Poverty and Mental Health.pdf
We are currently in the second year of the COVID-19 pandemic, and if there is anything we learned from last year is that our scholarship students have an overwhelming need for mental health support. We are extremely proud to announce that we have implemented one-on-one counseling for our university students which occurs every two weeks. In addition to that implementation, each month there is group counseling for everyone within the Los Tehusistes community.
Beginning in April of this year, we initiated a new phase of the scholarship program which consists of psychological support through group and individual assignments. These are done in order to provide students help in any area of their life that is causing them issues. It is also the goal of these activities to form young leaders within the community.
In May, a second workshop was implemented named Autoestima or Self Esteem. This was implemented with the goal to help students boost their own image of themselves, and what is required for them to become a positive change within their own lives and the community at large.
Most recently, our theme workshop for July was on Control of Anger. This part of the initiative is aimed specifically at the young graduates of our program. Shared monthly workshops like these help boost interpersonal communication and familial relationships for our students.
Our goal for 2022 is to provide mental health support for all our scholarship students both university age and high school.
