United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and Our Commitment

Ever since the founding of the United Nations in 1945, El Salvador has been an active participant in maintaining global peace and prosperity. However, despite these nations’ collaboration, there are still many challenges facing the world. Due to increasing poverty rates and the undeniable threat of climate change, the United Nations adopted 17 Sustainable Development Goals in 2015 to be completed by 2030 by 193 participating countries. These goals are aimed as a “shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future”. According to the UN this is a “call for action by all countries - poor, rich and middle- income - to promote prosperity while protecting the planet. They recognize that ending poverty must go hand-in-hand with strategies that build economic growth and address a range of social needs including education, health, social protection, and job opportunities, while tackling climate change and environmental protection”.

The Salvadorian government has specified nine of the Sustainable Development Goals to focus on at the forefront of their public policy, and the work that they are doing at the federal level has been invaluable for us at Caminos de Accion. We have specified ten Sustainable Development Goals with which our work closely benefits both our participants and the overall goals of the Salvadoran government.
