Knowledge is Power Projects
Dog & Cat Vaccination Days
In 2023, our scholarship students began working hand in hand with the Health Promoter of the San Jerónimo Canton. Scholarship students supported him in a canine and feline vaccination day, which aims to eradicate the spread of rabies to humans from these animals to zero.
Adult Literacy
For many of the older generation of Salvadorans, education, even basic education, was neither available nor affordable. This is why, in 2021, Idalia Gómez and Mayra Coreas, promoted by the Ministry of Education, implemented the Literacy of Older Adults project. This project educated five adult women how to read and write as they did not have the opportunity to do so in their adolescence.
Community Clean-Up Days
Scholarship students, supported by the promoter of the Health of Tehuiste Arriba Nelson Monterrosa, organized a community clean-up day for the Los Tehuistes communities. The Mayor’s Office of San Juan Nonualco even helped by sending trucks to pick up the garbage collected from participants!
Internet Access
Before 2020, internet access was virtually non-existent for the Los Tehuistes communities. In an effort to alleviate the internet connectivity problems, a telephone signal receiving antenna was installed. Due to the antenna, scholarship students have better access to their study platforms and will be able to attend their virtual classes. We would also like to thank our sister foundation CIS for managing the acquisition and import of the antenna.
Plataforma Global
Over the summer of 2023, we hired Global Platform of El Salvador to come give a workshop to our students on Leadership for Community Change.
Visit from Eliseo Alvarado
Our scholarship students had the pleasure of receiving a visit from Eliseo Alvarado, a businessman and philanthropist from the municipality of San Rafael Obrajuelo, who gave a seminar called: Losing the Fear of Success. The theme of this seminar aimed to show that if you dare to dream and work for it, it can be achieved.
Dengue Prevention
In response to the dengue infections throughout El Salvador, a red alert was declared by the Salvadoran authorities, as such, together with the Health Promoter. We began a cross-community campaign that seeks to eliminate mosquito breeding sites with the delivery of abatement and destruction of possible sources in homes.
