Organic Agriculture Project: Year 2

The communities of Tehuiste Abajo and Tehuiste Arriba in La Paz have reached their second year of implementing organic farming. This year, they are starting their very own community garden! Creating compost is always the first step in their annual process, to make sure the ground is ready to grow healthy, nutritious food. The climate in El Salvador is ideal for growing, so the compost seen in the photos below will be ready in, get read for it, just a few weeks! This year the community is working with agriculture engineer, Vanesa to learn as much as possible about organic agriculture. You can see her taking the temperature of the compost in one of the photos; the community learned last year, during a visit to an organic co-op, to monitor the compost’s temperature for the best quality compost. You can see project participants Magaly, Freddy, and Evangelista are working diligently to prepare for this year’s growing season. They’ve become quite the experts!
