Farming for the Future Video Transcription
CC: Caminos de Accion works in solidarity to facilitate community organization and to address the social problems, health education, as well as other locally identified challenges.
This video complies some of the agroecological initiatives and economic solidarity by Caminos de Accion in the districts of Los Tehuistes Arriba and Abajo, of the Municipal of San Juan Nonualco, department of La Paz.
With actions such as workshops and delivery of basic kits for agroecological family gardens for the youth of the districts of Los Tehuistes.
We learned from AFSC, the importance to continue driving actions that promote the defense of territories, the life and sovereignty of native peoples and the solidarity in resisting the onslaught of a capitalist, colonial and patriarchal economic system that is based on dispossession and oppression.
Aquaponia Video Transcription in English
We present to you the first aquaponics system installed in the canton of Tehuiste Arriba, the initiative that has been promoted by the Foundation Paths of Action. As you can see this is the reservoir where there are about three hundred tilapia which are under development. There in the background can be observed some of the same form that is the drainage pipe that already. This water is processed naturally but is and returns again to the reservoir. I will explain a little how the procedure through this pipe is feeding the mechanical filter. Here is the waterfall which serves as a stone, a natural filter, then through this pipe we transport it to the other depot we call filter “biofilter”. Here, as you can observe, there are several caps, soda caps, juice, or other plastic caps. These are responsible for storing what are the bacteria or microorganisms that serve for the development of the plants.
Then through a submersible pump we suck the water which feeds the pipe, and as you can observe the pipe and there you see moving water. Here we are talking about five pipes about six meters each where we are going to have a total of ninety-eight plants. Here are the first plants, these are lettuce and soon they will be installing more. The whole system is powered through a solar panel. This is the value of redundancy, the panel system that feeds the “bomb”, and it’s installed in the biofilter.
This is the panel where we collect solar energy and the system here is in charge of transforming it into electric energy with which everything is the system of aquaponics. As you can see recycling, reuse is being used or practiced and there is no chemical for the operation of this system. It’s environmentally friendly and once the water makes its way through the entire pipe it ends up in the drain we mentioned earlier and that in the tank.
It is worth mentioning that tilapia for their full development requires water to be constantly moving. Here are two exits and they are going to hit the reservoir. With that movement we are oxygenating the water equally, the sun does its part and the food that gives the beneficiary family of this project with that movement of water and oxygenation and the elements that I just mentioned make tilapia can in the short term grow to adult, and therefore, are beneficial for consumption, and if in any case it is possible to the family to be able to market it here locally so this is the aquaponics system that is a test pilot we hope everything works and with this and the finalization of video.
