A Little Late Welcome to 2022
Welcome to 2022 folks! We know we were a little late on our blog post for the New Year, but we felt compelled to really have our goals dialed down so we could update you with the most current information!
This year we have decided to really focus on our Knowledge is Power Program, the Farming for the Future Program, and we are adding a new program, led by our fearless leader in El Salvador, Manuel, particularly geared towards building future leaders! Just like Mark Twain said, “The secret of getting ahead is getting started”, while we’ve already started we’re excited to keep expanding our progress and get ahead!
Knowledge is Power
Our goal for 2022, is to ensure a 100% graduation rate for all our students while focusing on academic success, community involvement, and leaderships skills. We plan to do this by adding additional opportunities for tutoring through advice given by local professionals. We are doing this in order to reduce any doubts that arise in our scholarship students’ areas of study, and provide additional guidance to maximize success. We also plan to provide for 2 additional antennas and 2 hotspots monthly, and obtain more laptops for students in addition to the four we have provided thus far. Finally, we are expanding our mental health program, through the service of psychological sessions, twice a month, for each of our scholarship recipients. This will provide motivational tools that help identify strengths and weaknesses that allow young people to adequately cope with mental health issues and allow for better academic performance.
Farming for the Future
We plan to encourage the production of vegetables through agroecological processes, friendly to the environment, and to seek a market for the surplus production, promoting the unification of community efforts. Specifically, we plan to develop training information and workshops on the nutritional value of the food they eat, and the proper usage of supplements. These new workshops will be accompanied by the efforts of each family to maintain the orchards and create foliar sprays, repellents, and organic fertilizers. Additionally, we will develop group workshops with our sister organizations on the importance of working as a team, and to organize Los Tehuistes as a single group and seek a market for surplus products.
Leadership
We are INCREDIBLY excited to announce the new Leadership Program. Our main objective is to see in young people attitudes that move or promote actions to develop small specific projects for the good of the community and the scholarship program itself. We plan to accomplish this through the accompaniment that young people carry out in tune with their obligation to carry out social hours, they meditate on the importance of their actions for the good of the families in their community. We want our scholarship recipients to awaken a feeling of gratitude and belonging in their community. We will continue to develop our leadership program so expect a new page on our website!
