GivingTuesday

When we think about all the problems in the world: global hunger, poverty, human and sex trafficking, global climate change, etc., the mere thought that us, as individuals, can make a difference is equivalent to Sisyphus forever doomed to push a bolder up a hill merely to just watch it fall back down again when he’s finished. It seems increasingly unfathomable that any mere mortal, or regular non-billionaire, can create change, but if there’s anything we’ve learned through the past year, decade, or even century, is that every contribution, no matter how small, makes the largest difference.

GivingTuesday began in 2012 at the 92nd Street Y and its Belfer Center for Innovation and Social Impact in New York City. The idea was simple, “a day that encourages people to do good”. Since this humble beginning, the idea has grown into a movement inspiring hundreds of millions of people all over the globe to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity. In 2021, GivingTuesday is supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation as well as the Craig Newmark Philanthropies, Fidelity Charitable, National Philanthropic Trust, Ford, and the Ford Foundation.

Radical Generosity - Recognizes that we can each drive an enormous amount of positive change by rooting our everyday actions, decisions and behavior in radical generosity - the concept that the suffering of others should be as intolerable to us as our own suffering.

In 2020, at least $2.47 Billion was donated in 24 hours with 13% of adults additionally participating by offering time, voice, skills, goods, etc. Last year, CdA raised approximately $1,200.00, and this year we hope to match or beat that! We plan to use the money to continue to expand and improve our Knowledge is Power Scholarship and Leadership Program and our Farming for the Future Program! Our fundraiser for GivingTuesday can be found on our Facebook page! Check out our blog, Facebook, or contact us for more information about how to give or get involved!
